Ceres Haus: Hidden Minimalistic Cafe & Intimate Wine Bar Located At Boat Quay

There's a new hidden spot where you can wind down in the cafe during the day and sip on a glass of wine in the evenings.

Located on the second floor (above Misfits), be sure to keep your eyes out for the hanging wine bottle and coffee cup or you could miss the entrance of the cafe.

Minimalistic space, simple menu

They offer the basic pick-me-ups to kick away the afternoon snooze, including black (S$4.50) and mocha (S$6). Using beans from Ethiopia and Brazil, the white (S$5.50) was smooth and had a nutty profile with mild acidity and bitterness.

Non-coffee options also include chocolate (S$6) and ginger honey lemonade (S$5). Whilst the wine menu isn't displayed on the counter during the day, you can also get a glass of wine (from S$16).

The ham and cheese sandwich (S$16) may seem simple, but the side serving of salt and pepper, whipped butter and homemade jam elevated the basic sandwich as it allowed more than one way of enjoying it. The well toasted sourdough had crispy crusts and the tangy taste was distinct, while you can expect the caramelised tomatoes to be sweet and still juicy. You would find the whipped butter to be very light and airy; it adds some moisture and subtle buttery flavour to the sandwich. Alternatively, you could slather some homemade jam on the sandwich for a sweeter taste profile.

Other light bites also include deconstructed platters - sweet (S$14) or avo (S$12). The former comes with sourdough bread, sliced cheese and homemade jams, while the latter includes sourdough bread with half an avocado and whipped butter.

Their bakes include marble cake (S$5) or madeleines (S$6). Freshly baked upon order, do expect a 15 mins wait for the madeleines. You can expect a slight crispy, caramelised exterior while having a spongy, dense interior. Although slightly sweet, it had a fragrant vanilla and buttery taste.

With dimly lit warm lighting and natural sunlight coming in through the windowpanes, it creates a dark moody space that somehow feels comforting and soothing. It is as though time stands still when you are here.
